Learning the handstand seems complex in the beginning but having the right guidance makes the journey a joyful experience that will deepen the understanding of our bodies and minds.
On the way to master the handstand we learn to sharpen our focus, train our strength and flexibility in various ways but also to coordinate and orient our bodies in space in a completely new way.
This two day workshops covers all the basics of the handstand:
How to warm up properly and how to prepare the shoulders and wrists for the intense work they have to do, to keep us balanced upside down.
We learn how to articulate the shoulders, pelvis, spine and feet to improve our line and the capability to counterbalance in a handstand. All these skills enable us to get the most out of the handstand drills that will follow.
Additionally, we are going to practice lower body and shoulder mobility which will make our practice more efficient and which opens up new handstand-worlds, such as handstand press, different shapes, positions and one arm work.
This workshop is the perfect fit for you if you are just beginning with your handstand training and want to do it the right way, if you hit a plateau and need tips from an experienced coach, if you are looking for a community of likeminded practitioners or if you are just curious about my approach and learning in a group setting.
All genders, ages and body types are welcome.
Heart over head - discover your body in new ways.
My Handstand-Journey:
From my early childhood handstand was part of my life. My Father used to do handstand in our backyard and at the lake. Facinated and influenced by his skills I started to balance on my hands as well. Later I found out that even my grandfather used to do handstand. So it seems like the practice is deeply rooted in my family tree.
At the age of nine I began to breakdance and dedicated more of my time towards dance and acrobatics. Since then handstand is part of my movement practice and enriches my life.
Together with my older brother I playfully discovered all things handstand. Throughout our youth we tried to stand, walk, jump and twist on two or even one arm.
But not only Handstand was what sparked our interest, all sorts of armbalances did.
In the last years I took things a bit more serious. Trying not only to somehow archiving my goals but also investing more time in the details of the practice and how to teach this movement art to others. Learning from teachers such as Yuval Ayalon & Vincent Niemann helped me achieving this goal.
The last almost two decades have tought me a lot about what it takes to learn handstand. Especially seeing so many fellow practitioners, as well as hundreds of students of mine gave me a good sense for how individual each and every journey towards the handstand is. Nevertheless besides the individual component there are some things that will help the majority of people reach their goals fast and with more ease and fun.
Enjoying the practice is definitly one of the biggest parts of it. Hence there is always a playful part within my workshop. Space to laugh and try new things that spark our curiosity. Inspired by the Movement Culture we try not to get lost in reps and sets but to use the handstand as a tool to move and learn about our body and our self.
Still the goal of my workshops is helping the participants to balance on their hands. Therefore we will do all the basics and drills that help to train more effectively first.
I'll share my top tipps and you can ask your question.
I am looking forward to practice with you.
